Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Revealed
The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.
This warrior group features the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.
That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are scarce.
At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might look out of place, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
First, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—used the foes for his personal gain, invading the secret base, assaulting the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.
The traitor then settled his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
- Kattigan knows the region and advises that it is a hostile environment.
- The strong character and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- But, their status as important members in the influential clan could help the group enter places they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:
- The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- The target is marked for death by House Halovar.
This leaves them few options but to travel to the northern region in search of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Questers and Schemers parties.
Audiences can look forward to finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
